Welcome to the Moray Coast ~ the Riviera of Scotland ~ and the Moray Coast Methodist Churches in Portgordon, Buckie, Portessie, Findochty, Cullen and Banff.

Where we are coming from:-

Although there has been Methodism in Banff continuously since the Wesleys' day, the other five societies along this 25 mile stretch of coast, in their present form, are of more recent origin. They stem from a revival of the 1860s led by James Turner, a Peterhead cooper (barrel-maker). Turner's ministry is little known outside north-east Scotland and was quite brief, but its consequences have been powerful and long-lasting. Following his conversion Turner preached in many towns and villages along the Moray coast. Vigorous societies sprang up among these fishing communities. In due course ministers were called and churches were built and in some cases rebuilt to meet demand.

Since 1905 these six churches, plus Peterhead and Aberdeen, have formed the North of Scotland Mission Circuit. Peterhead and Aberdeen each has its own website.

The Superintendent minister for the Circuit is Revd. Kenneth Morgan, who is also the minister in Aberdeen. The North of Scotland Mission Circuit is part of the Scotland District of the Methodist Church of Great Britain. The Methodist tradition in this area remains strongly evangelical, seeking to tranlate its faith into relevant mission to the several communities in which we live.

The six coast churches are led by a full-time team of an ordained minister and a lay pastor, together with voluntary/part-time local preachers and church officials. Our minister is the Revd. Martin Keenan (Tel. 01542 831176) and our lay pastor is Mr. William Aitken (Tel. 01542 835007).
